What the Camden County Commission has Accomplished - Part 1

Camden County needs leadership that you can trust. Nothing is as important as having ethical leadership that will do the right thing. To be an effective commissioner, you really need to have a comprehensive knowledge of Camden County and its residents to make sound decisions. With over 40 years as a surveyor in Camden County, I know this county end to end.

The Presiding Commissioner of Camden County must to be willing to make a stand for the right thing, even when it is unpopular. As Presiding Commissioner I’ve delivered on every promise I made when I chose to run for office 4 years ago. I’ve worked to build a close relationship with the other commissioners. We now have a Camden County Commission that works together as a team to make improvements to the operation of government. We’ve taken a hard look at how we do “the business of government”, to make improvements and enhance the quality of life of the citizens. So what have we accomplished for you?

  • In Camden County, we have hundreds of homes with garages and other improvements built within the right of way of county roads. Almost all of these were built prior to planning and zoning. We adopted the use of licenses for improvements within the right of way of county roads so that owners with existing improvements that encroach on the county right of way can get a loan.

  • The Camden County Commission requested and was granted the first comprehensive STATE AUDIT of Camden County in over 20 years. It became obvious that there were problems in the operation of county government and finances.  With all of the controversy, the only solution was to dig deep into the operation of county government to find and isolate the problems. The commission will act on the findings of the audit to fix problems identified. It is essential to have a county government you can trust.

  • We have done a complete overhaul of the computer systems and IT of Camden County that had been neglected for years.

  • We’ve protected property values by stopping unwanted commercial and industrial development from encroaching into quiet residential neighborhoods, such as the proposed expansion of the rock quarry in Sunrise Beach.

  • We’ve bid out banking and insurance to save hundreds of thousands of tax dollars every year.

  • On behalf of the Camden County Commission, I am pleased to announce that Standard and Poor’s has “raised our credit rating from “AA-“to “AA” while affirming the stable outlook.” The rating letter, dated February 23, 2018, confirms the improvement in the counties financial status that was asserted a few months ago when we refinanced county bonds for major structural repairs to the Camden County Justice Center.

  • This is the result of a lot of hard work by the entire Camden County Commission, who sets the budget. We worked as a team, in cooperation with many other elected officials and employees to make this happen. It is worth noting that Camden County was able to achieve this improved credit rating while also giving county employees the first significant pay raise in a decade.

“I am committed to working hard to serve the citizens of Camden County, with a stable, commonsense leadership strategy for our growing community.”
