Q&A With Greg Hasty

Greg Hasty recently participated in a Q&A session with the Lake Sun editorial staff. We're happy to share some of his answers to questions about his experience as Presiding Commissioner of Camden County and his visions for the future! Take a look below to learn more.

Q: What sets you apart from the other candidates?

A: I am a Christian, conservative Republican, with over 30 years as a successful business owner at the Lake of the Ozarks. My Democratic opponent retired at the lake recently and has little knowledge of Camden County. The Libertarian candidate hasn't shown up anywhere for any event and remains an enigma. Neither of these challengers can match my lifetime of knowledge about Camden County. I am a licensed Professional Surveyor, as well as Real Estate Broker, with over 40 years experience in Camden County. I am, by far, the most qualified candidate to serve as your Camden County Presiding Commissioner.

Q: Why are you running for office?

A: Five years ago, I was asked to run for Presiding Commissioner, to protect and defend the property rights of our citizens. The Lake of the Ozarks Board of Realtors gave me their unanimous endorsement for Presiding Commissioner. I've done everything I promised when I ran four years ago...

Q: What experiences have you had that has prepared you to lead Camden County?

A: In addition to all of the above, I have a proven record of defending your property rights.... I am not in the pocket of ANY special interests. I SERVE YOU, AND ONLY YOU. I'm a proven leader you can TRUST.

Q: Have you taken any contributions that could, at a later date, present any potential conflict of interest?

A: This is a short answer, no.

Q: What are the 3 top challenges facing Camden County?

A: I've answered this question before, but it has become apparent that my answer needs to be updated to reflect our current national circumstances. The three top challenges facing Camden County are good paying jobs, housing costs, and, new to my list, regulatory actions at the Federal, State, and Local government level. These regulatory actions have threatened our economic stability. I've seen the effect of this for the last decade. It appears that unforeseen attacks of regulatory agencies are just going to keep coming. This has been reflected in the local news headlines for the last several years. Who would have ever dreamed that a regulatory agency (FERC) would come to the lake and threaten to tear down 1300 homes?

Q: What are your solutions for these challenges?

A: To create good jobs in Camden County, we need to allow our economy to continue to grow. We have an evolving national economy that puts Camden County in an advantageous position going forward. We must keep governmental interferences from eliminating our advantages by regulations. In a free economy, Camden County has a lot going for it.
Coupled with higher paying jobs, are reduced housing costs. Both of these together equal an improved quality of life for our citizens. To reduce housing costs, you need government to make steps to allow for builders and developers to be successful in the development of housing at every price point. That is one of the reasons I ran for office four years ago. Camden County is working on that now, by revisiting our land use codes in the Planning and Zoning District. Finally, as far as unforeseen attacks of regulatory agencies are concerned, we must be resolute in defending property rights contained in our deeds. That's where I earn my paycheck. I'm the man that will fight for you.
