What the Commission has Accomplished
Camden County needs leadership that you can trust. Nothing is as important as having ethical leadership that will do the right thing. To be an effective commissioner, you really need to have a comprehensive knowledge of Camden County and its residents to make sound decisions. With over 40 years as a surveyor in Camden County, I know this county end to end.
You also have to be willing to make a stand for the right thing, even when it is unpopular. As Presiding Commissioner I’ve delivered on every promise I made when I chose to run for office 4 years ago. I’ve worked to build a close relationship with the other commissioners. We now have a Camden County Commission that works together as a team to make improvements to the operation of government. We’ve taken a hard look at how we do “the business of government”, to make improvement and enhance the quality of life of the citizens. So what have we accomplished for you?
- As promised 4 years ago, we have new FEMA flood maps for Camden County. These new maps remove thousands of homes from the flood hazard area. This saves these homeowners millions of dollars in insurance premiums every year.
- As promised 4 years ago, The Camden County Commission has authorized a complete rewrite of the ULC of Camden County. We’re fixing many long-standing problems, and reducing the COST OF HOUSING. If I have anything to say, which I obviously do, we’ll eliminate the 25 FOOT WATERFRONT SETBACK.
- The COMMISSION authorized and accomplished the first significant rise of employee pay in 10 years, while ALSO improving the financial statue of the County.
- As a result of the improved financial condition of the county, we received the LOWEST INTEREST RATE available when we refinanced the BONDS to make a 4 MILLION DOLLAR REPAIR to our justice center.
- This commission authorized the hiring of the first PROFESSIONAL HUMAN RESOURCES ADMINISTRATOR, in the history of Camden County. These moves brought Camden County into compliance with state and federal law. Prior to 2015, the county’s 320 employees were served by employees with NO TRAINING.
- We’ve resolved all of the ongoing litigation with P & Z, saving hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars every year.
- We restored $150,000~ of funding to HORSESHOE BEND SPECIAL ROAD DISTRICT.
- We adopted the use of licenses for improvements within the right of way of county roads so that owners with existing improvements that encroach on the county right of way can get a loan.
- We’ve protected property values by stopping unwanted commercial and industrial development from encroaching into quiet residential neighborhoods, such as the proposed expansion of the rock quarry in Sunrise Beach.
- We’ve bid out banking and insurance to save hundreds of thousands of tax dollars every year.
- The Camden County Commission requested and was granted the first comprehensive STATE AUDIT of Camden County in over 20 years. It became obvious that there were problems in the operation of county government and finances. With all of the controversy, the only solution was to dig deep into the operation of county government to find and isolate the problems. The commission will act on the findings of the audit to fix problems identified. It is essential to have a county government you can trust.
Greg Hasty is a proven leader you can trust. As your Camden County Comissioner, Greg has helped to achieve a number of things he promised before taking office. He is not done yet! Hasty is running for another term representing the county. He wants to continue the work that he has started to keep making a positve impact on our great area!
